The Best Scalextric Car – Our Test

At Miniracing, we take slot car racing very seriously. In this Scalextric car test, we are going to put them on the track and compare them to see which one gives us the best time during the laps we are going to run.

The choice of these 3 models was made from 5 candidates of WRC slot cars by Scalextric, which were very common during the Tecnitoys era.

You will soon discover the winner of this test and see the differences with the other two competing Scalextric cars.

Candidates for the Scalextric Car Test

  • Subaru Impreza
  • Ford Focus
  • Seat Córdoba
  • Hyundai Accent
  • Seat León

The first three were chosen as the winners for the test. Before starting this Scalextric car duel, let’s take a look at some characteristics of these slot cars.

Type of Test

The test for these selected Scalextric cars will consist of several rounds of 15 laps each on our homemade track.

I will use zero grip tires on the front wheels and good grip tires from the NSR slot brand on the rear wheels.

Scalextric Car Duel: Test and Comparison of 3 Models

Preparation

Before conducting the test, all 3 models underwent cleaning and lubrication to ensure they are in optimal condition for testing and comparison with as minimal differences as possible.

To learn how to clean slot cars and perform proper maintenance, I have a detailed video on my channel. It’s quite extensive (split into 2 parts), where you can see everything from fully disassembling the Scalextric Subaru Impreza, methods for cleaning a slot car, to reassembly and tuning by lubricating the necessary points to ensure perfect performance on the track.

Test Times

In the times recorded, the winner of the Scalextric car test was the Seat Cordoba WRC, with a very slight difference over the Ford Focus.

Regarding the handling feel of each car, the Cordoba Scalextric performs the best on the track. It maintains good front end grip, and its rear end sliding allows for some margin of error to make corrections.

In contrast, the Scalextric Subaru quickly loses traction if you enter a corner too aggressively, both at the front and rear, leaving little room for error.
